nursing theories that nurse chose are the Culture Care or Transcultural Nursing Theory and the Theory of Caring. The Culture Care Theory by Madeleine Leininger explains that nurses must be sensitive to the diverse needs of everyone that they treat (Chang, Chen, & Hung, 2018). To provide care that is effective, healthcare workers should learn the traditions, values, beliefs, and health care behaviors of those they care for. What may be appropriate for one patient may not be for another. Patients that receive culturally appropriate care have improved outcomes and are able to carryover health instruction better (Chang, Chen, & Hung, 2018).
The Theory of Caring by Jean Watson is defined as how nurses convey care for their patients. The theory states that nursing is about health promotion as well as treatment (Gonzalo, 2023). The theory looks at a holistic approach of caring for others. According to the theory providing care to patients encourages growth (Gonzalo, 2023).
In home health both theories, Culture Care and Theory of Caring apply. The clinicians must be culturally aware as we work with a diverse population. We service clients that are from different parts of the world, different religious beliefs, and various health behaviors. Many of the home health patients are still in the acute phase of their illness. They must adjust to being back home and needing a caregiver. Many of the clients also experience financial issues due to their illness. This is why we use a case management model of nursing, to care for the patient holistically. Interprofessional collaboration allows each clinician involved in the patient’s care to give input on the needs of the patient. IPC is also used to create a holistic plan of care. Comment on their choice of the theories, and state whether you disagree or agree with their justification of the identified theory’s use in their nursing practice.
