Use task analysis to break down the steps students will need to follow in order to perform a simple functional task, such as washing hands, or catching a school bus. The task that is chosen should include about 8-10 steps that are needed in order to achieve “success” with the task at hand. After the task analysis is completed, write one measurable IEP goal, and then supplement with either two short-term objectives, or two benchmarks that could be used to measure and report on the way to success.
