There are five situations in kindergarten classroom. The teacher makes an interview with each child to assess speaking level proficiency by using Benchmarks framework.

Student 1 Friedrich is considered level 1 -a Kindergarten child who is a newcomer

Student 2 Rachel is considered level 2- a Kindergarten child who has been learning English for approximately six months.

Student 3 Tamara is considered level 3-Kindergarten child who has developed relatively good social English proficiency and is learning to use more specific words and longer sentence structures.

Student 4 Pranshu is considered level 4-a Kindergarten child who uses a wide range of vocabulary and detailed sentences. She is learning more precise words to share her ideas and interact with others.

Student 5 Monica is considered level 5-Kindergarten child who uses a wide range of vocabulary and detailed, compound sentences. She is learning to use more cohesive devices and transition words to connect her thoughts and share her ideas.

Make a reflection Using WIDA’s Speaking Interpretive Rubric to analyze the students’ performance and summarize the student’s performance and compare it to stages of second language acquisition. Finally, make recommendations as educators detailing instructional remedies, not what the student must do, but what the educational system and/or teachers should provide.
