Need positive and negative feedback

Topic:

Identify a ballad and provide background information about what type of ballad it is (work song, love, spiritual, etc.), where it came from, and the meaning behind it. Be sure to include a few of its verses.

The ballad I chose for this weeks discussion is ‘Flowers’ by Lauren Spencer Smith. It is a song that has recently blew up on Tik Tok and when I heard it I was instantly obsessed. I feel like it spoke to my soul. This ballad is one of love and heartbreak. The story told in the song is one of a woman realizing there were signs that the man she loved did not return her love, but she tried to make it work anyways. It’s a story that I can relate to, and I’m sure a lot of you could as well. The lyrics touch your soul, but the artists voice is what really makes you feel her pain.

I guess that flowers aren’t just used for big apologies
I guess I should’ve been more conscious how you spoke to me
‘Cause when we’d fight, you’d give me space and not communicate
And for a while I thought that’s what I should appreciate
Maybe I was holding onto what I thought you were
But when you think too hard, eventually it starts to hurt
The version of you in my head, now I know wasn’t true
Young people fall for the wrong people, guess my one was you

While I am in a happy and healthy relationship now, I still understand the sentiments coming from this song and it is one of my favorites. This song is not just a song describing a broken relationship, it is also a guide of warning signs for women who may be in a similar situation who haven’t found the strength to leave yet. It explains how the toxicity of a relationship is not worth it in the end and that you can’t wish people to love you right.
