As a teacher, you will have a legal and ethical responsibility for the safety and welfare of the students in your classroom and school. You might even live in the same community as your students and may have dual relationships (neighbors, their coach, etc.) with them. This means that teachers need to be cautious and hold themselves accountable in every decision they make, comment they make, and action they take inside and outside the school setting.
