1. Write your attention getter for your speech. Remember that you can use a statistic, a story, a question, etc, as long it is connected to the content of your speech (topic).
2. Write your thesis statement for your speech. Remember that this is the main idea for your speech- all of the main points connect back to this main idea.
3. Write your preview statement for your speech. Remember that your preview is like a headline statement for your main points. It can be viewed as a ‘list’ of the titles of your main points
4. Write a transition sentence from the introduction to the body of the speech. Remember that you can use something like ‘to begin, I will discuss’ etc.
5. Write your main point one, remembering to fully develop the ideas. No sentences left unfinished!! Please use the numbering feature for your sub-points. For example:
I. I will begin by talking about my past.
- I was born in Memphis Tennessee, and we lived there until I was about ten years old.
- Then we moved to the countryside of West Tennessee to a city called Hickory Valley.
- The difference between city and country was crazy! There were not many people around in Hickory valley so I learned to love to read and adventure outside by myself.
